Singular and Plural Numbers

NUMBER :

(1)Singular Number : When noun denotes only one thing,that is the singular number of that noun. e.g.book,cow,bird,dog etc.

(2)Plural Number : When noun denotes more than one things,that is the plural number of that noun.

Rules os Changing Number:

(1) Generally,by adding suffix 's' change the singular number into plural number.

(2) If there is ( s,sh,ch,x,o or z) at the end of the singular common noun add 'es' as suffix to change into plural form.

Exceptions for the rule above :

ox – oxen

bamboo – bamboos

zoo – zoos

radio – radios

(3) If there is a 'y' at the end of the singular noun and before 'y' there is a consonent sound. To change into plural form remove 'y' and add 'ies' at the end of the noun.

(4) If there is a 'y' at the end of the singular noun and before 'y' there is a vowel sound. To change into plural form add 's' at the end at the end of noun.Don't make any changes in the given noun.

(5) If there is 'f' or 'fe' at the end of the singular common noun.To change into plural form remove 'f' and 'fe' and add 'ves' at the end of the noun.

(6) Some common nouns have no rule to change into plural form.

(7) Singular and Plural form of some nouns is same.
